A second-generation design-build firm led by Abe Degnan, who holds an architecture degree from UW-Milwaukee. One team sketches your kitchen or bath, prices it and builds it.

A Greater Madison design-build firm that starts by listening

Degnan Design-Build-Remodel has offered kitchen remodeling in Madison, WI and the towns around it since Bob Degnan founded the company in 1981. His son Abe grew up on job sites as a helper and carpenter, then earned an architecture degree and brought a design-first approach to the family business.

Today the same team designs, prices and builds each project. A designer draws several concepts, then 3D drawings, before anyone swings a hammer.

A lead carpenter runs the site once work starts. In GuildQuality surveys, 95% of clients say they would recommend the firm and 98% call the team professional and organized.

Questions Madison-area homeowners ask Degnan

Is a ballpark estimate free?

Yes. Ballpark budget talks are free and happen by phone, video chat or at the Windsor office. You share your wish list, photos and budget goals. If you want a full design, written budget and scope of work, that starts with a paid design retainer.

How many months should we plan for a Degnan kitchen or bath?

Design, selections and estimating usually take a few months. After that, Degnan's typical build times are 2 to 3 months for a kitchen, 1.5 to 2.5 months for a bathroom and 2 to 3 months for a finished basement. The firm says 90% of its projects fall in these ranges.

Can we live at home during the remodel?

Most Degnan clients do. Before work begins, the crew protects your home and sets up dust control. Payments follow the progress of the work, and you meet with your lead carpenter, designer and production manager from time to time so you always know what is happening next.

Are the photos on the website really Degnan projects?

Yes. Degnan states that it does not use stock photos and that every project shown is its own work. Its reviews are real too: client surveys are published on GuildQuality, and more project and in-progress photos are posted on its Facebook and Houzz pages.

Can you help before we buy a house?

Yes. Send the MLS listing and photos, and the team will spend about half an hour with you by phone or video at no charge to talk through whether the home can be remodeled the way you want. Realtors can use the same service for clients.
